Scratch 3.0 Release Party!

Details

On January 23rd, we will be celebrating the release of Scratch 3.0. Let's work together to learn how Scratch 3.0 can be used in our classrooms! We hope to provide food and maybe some cake to celebrate! As always are meetups are "Teachers Teaching Teachers" and we want you to learn what you want to want to learn. Bring a project to share or let's create one together. Looking forward to our next meetup! It's going to be a blast!

RVA Scratch Ed Meetups in partnership with Science Matters, an educational program of the Community Idea Stations.

What's a Scratch Educator Meetup?

Scratch: a free tool (http://www.scratch.mit.edu/) for exploring computational creativity by programming interactive media (like stories, games, animations, and simulations) and sharing those creations with others online, used by millions of people all around the world.

Scratch Educator: a teacher who wants to support computational creativity in the classroom and beyond, helping learners—from elementary school to high school, across curricular areas and settings—imagine, program, and share with Scratch

Scratch Educator Meetup: a gathering of Scratch Educators who want to learn with and from each other, sharing their ideas and strategies for supporting computational creativity in all its forms

What will we be doing at the meetup?

If you're new to the meetup format, here's what they are and how they work. Meetups are informal gatherings for educators who work with (or are interested in working with) Scratch. The meetups are organized into three parts:

  1. We start with networking over light refreshments, getting to know fellow attendees and sharing what people want to explore during the meetup.

  2. We collaboratively decide how to structure our learning and then form small groups based on our different interests. Maybe you want to have a discussion about classroom strategies or get more practice with Scratch—or something else entirely. Feel free to move between groups if the session that you're in isn't working for you.

  3. We gather as a whole group for group sharing. You might pose a question to discuss with the group, or share something from your classroom. This is a great time to inspire and be inspired.

What should I bring?

Curiosity. And a laptop that supports Flash will be helpful for the hands-on activities.

Anything I should know before coming to the meetup?

These are completely optional, but are excellent resources to learn more about using Scratch with learners:

• If you're new to Scratch, you can check it out at http://scratch.mit.edu (http://scratch.mit.edu/)

• Join the ScratchEd Website (http://scratched.gse.harvard.edu/) and browse through hundreds of resources!

• Look over the Creative Computing Curriculum Guide (http://scratched.gse.harvard.edu/guide/). It's an amazing resource.

We look forward to meeting up with you!
