What we're about

Showcasing the beautiful coastline and islands of Hong Kong.

Promoting an understanding and love of the sea and marine environment.

Helping people go sea kayaking without the need to buy expensive equipment before they're sure they want to do more.

How to join us:

We've established a 'kayaking essentials' session; a set of skills every member of the group has to have before they are able to join us in open water. These skills include basic self and assisted rescue skills, paddle technique, and safety policies and procedures. You must attend an essentials course before joining us on any sea kayak trips.

Trips range from beginner, intermediate, and advanced day tours on weekends, midweek eskimo roll sessions, and overnight expeditions.

We look forward to paddling with you!

Kayaking Essentials at Cheung Chau

cheung chau windsurfing centre

This is an introductory session for people who are complete beginners or fairly new to kayaking. We will begin with learning the essential kayak parts and equipment. We will also learn and practice simple strokes, how to enter and exit the kayak and how to cope with a capsize or emergency. It will be a full and busy day and you will get wet! Please do not sign up unless you commit to being there. We can not run the training session when people drop out with short notice. Our 48 hour rule does apply. Please arrive with HKD 300 in cash as payment for the hire of equipment used in this training session. Please also bring the following - - Sturdy closed-toed shoes that can get wet that will be worn at all times throughout the training session (Crocs DO NOT qualify. Old sneakers/trainers are OK. NO flip flops). - A packed lunch - A refillable water bottle (there is clean, drinkable tap water at the kayak base). We strongly discourage the use of packaged water in disposable bottles (I.e. Bonaqua, Evian, etc) - Swimwear, hat, sunglasses and sun protection (long sleeve rash guard or UV resistant shirt highly recommended). - Optional: change of clothes & towel for post-session shower Expect the training to last until about 4pm which means you will likely be ready to go by 5pm after the gear had been washed and stored which you will need to help with. Following training and practice sessions of all of the above, a short paddle trip MAY be possible to apply all that has been learned. Following the completion of this session, you may participate in 'Beginner' rated paddle trips that SK&F may offer. New members with previous paddling experience will be assessed during this session to determine on a case-by-case basis what level paddling trip they will be eligible for.

Beginners' Paddle - Tap Mun and Port Island (Intermediates welcome)

Sai Kung Bus Terminus (No.94 Stand)

Who can join: This trip is suitable for beginners who have attended the 'Kayaking Essentials' session. Intermediate paddlers can paddle single kayaks and work on their boat handling skills. When to meet: We can meet at the bus terminal to Wong Shek Pier at 9am This should be bus number 94. We can take the public ferry to our Tan Ka Wan Base once at Wong Shek Pier. Route: Leaving our base of Tan Ka Wan, we'll paddle through Ko Lau Wan village and make the first sea crossing to Tap Mun (Grass Island). From here we'll skirt around the western coast of the island heading north and then make a second crossing to Port Island (named after the colour of its rock). Here we can stop at one of the beaches for lunch. Those who are hardy can take a swim or even snorkel to take a look at the coral (so bring a mask or borrow one from us if you fancy the idea!)
