This fabulous, star-studded 5-night cruise will take us to Costa Maya (http://www.cruisecritic.com/ports/newport.cfm?ID=150), a recently developed purpose-built cruise port that sees less traffic than any other destination we've considered thus far. Just an excursion away are the ruins of the Mayan city of Chacchoben (http://www.cruisecritic.com/memberreviews/shore-excursions/excursion/63/), to which we will book a group trip.

There will be ample time to enjoy beignets in the French quarter while sipping coffee and people-watching the city's always lively crowds. Please note that OBTAINING A PASSPORT CAN TAKE WEEKS. Don't put this off: If you're interested in traveling with us, start the process TODAY (http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/passports.html)! If you need to obtain a passport at the relative "last minute", we have worked with the excellent folks at Travel Visa Pro (https://www.travelvisapro.com/) in San Francisco; they can get you your passport in less than a week, but it's not cheap. So get your passport the slow way (http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/passports.html) and save!
If you absolutely cannot obtain a passport, you will NEED two documents: [a] An ORIGINAL, GOVERNMENT ISSUED birth certificate (bearing the raised seal of a city, county, or state) proving birth IN THE UNITED STATES, AND [b] a photo ID.
No substitutions will be allowed, and the border crossing laws are very strict. HOSPITAL-ISSUED BIRTH CERTIFICATES ARE NOT VALID; birth certificates used as proof of US citizenship must be issued by an American government authority (be it a city, county, or state).
Furthermore, if your name has CHANGED since the name listed on your birth certificate, you will need to bring "connecting documentation" (original name change certification with raised government seal, original marriage certificate documenting change of name, etc.) to prove that you are the named person.
If you arrive with insufficient documentation, you will likely NOT BE ALLOWED TO BOARD THE SHIP!
Want to avoid this mess? Just get a passport (http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/passports.html). It's valid for 10 years and is the absolute best form of ID you can get!
