From: Neil B.
Sent on: Tuesday, April 13, 2010 2:58 PM
Announcing a new Meetup for Seattle Photography Group!

What: Portraiture: Level 2

When: Tuesday, April 20,[masked]:00 PM

Price: $80.00 per person

Where:
OK Hotel
212 Alaskan Way S.
Seattle, WA 98104

Portraiture: Level 2

How often have you heard someone say ?I?m not photogenic? or ?I don?t like myself in pictures?? It seems nearly everyone who has ever been in front the lens has said something similar? I know I have. So how do you respond to someone who says they?re just not photogenic? My answer is always the same? ?Don?t worry about that?. it?s my job as a photographer to MAKE you photogenic!?

Learn what it takes to make anyone from average Joe to super-model Jane look great in portraits! In this level 2 portrait workshop, we?ll cover a variety of lighting styles, posing techniques, wardrobe and background tips, lens choice, and a host of other technical and artistic considerations that go deeper into portrait making than my other workshops.

We'll be shooting with my camera tethered to a 24" imac running Apple Aperture 3 for instant feedback as we work through examples. If you wish to shoot with your own camera, please make sure you're set up to tether before you come into class.

My classes are very hands-on and conversational. I work hard to meet the level of everyone in the class so no one is bored and no one is left behind. If you have a question during the class, bring it up and we'll move in that direction... every class is unique, depending on the students.

This class builds upon a foundation of lighting information laid in my Intro to Studio Lighting class. If you've never used any lighting gear, you may find Portraiture: Level 2 a little over your head. With so much information to cover on portraiture, I won't be able to provide much beginner lighting info and I recommend taking the Intro to Studio Lighting class first.

Other classes I plan to offer in the future include Product Photography 101, Family/Group Portraits 101, Apple Aperture 101, Adobe Lightroom 101, Printing & Color Management 101, Post Processing 101, Studio Workflow 101, and many others. Please let me know if you have any interest in these classes or anything else I have not listed here. Active members of Photo Coterie or SPG will receive a discount when attending multiple workshops.

Class size is limited to 8 to 10 people to allow for significant hands-on experience and individual attention. Please allow 3 to 4 hours for this class. Please send payment in advance to [address removed] through PayPal. Your Yes RSVP will be ignored until payment has been received or you've made other arrangements with me directly. I'm sorry but there will be no refunds on last-minute cancellations.

My studio is located inside the OK Hotel in Pioneer Square: 212 Alaskan Way S, 98104. Parking is free after 6:00 pm. The building is secure so you will need to call my cell phone when you arrive:[masked]

Be aware there is a Seattle Mariners game this evening and parking will be a nightmare. I wish there were a way around this but there isn't. They have games scheduled nearly every night of the week during the season. I would recommend being very early or taking a bus into Pioneer Square.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns or if you need help with directions.

I look forward to seeing you in class!

Read what others have said about my workshops:

? This was a great introduction to studio lighting. But, really it's all due to Neil. He is a gifted instructor, knowledgeable, personable, and passionate about his craft. The session was hands on and paced to the participants. He made it look and feel easy to get outstanding results. I am looking forward to the next one! ? --Risa

? Tons of hands on experience. Neil was full of information and handled "off the wall" questions very well. The class seemed to flow to what interested us most. There were several different experience levels in the room and he catered to all of them well. ? --Thobert

? I enjoyed this experiential workshop and learned many useful techniques. The participants were able to experiment with many lighting combinations. A tethered shooting system provided immediate feedback. Neil's questions provoked me to think deeper about lighting and when participants' answers didn't expose things completely, Neil supplemented those answers to complete the exposure. It was fun working with the other participants. I felt like I was part of a team that was learning new things. The workshop provided some theory but focused on technique. That focus was just right for me. ? --Steven

? I highly recommend Neil's classes. He is a great teacher: patient, knowledgeable and gives hands-on experience. His small class sizes allow for a discussion-style teaching and caters to each individual's wants and needs. In the three plus hours, Neil gave us a wealth of knowledge, tips and ideas. This is well-worth the money. ? --Angela

? The organizer had great insight and was very open with his experiences and knowledge. He provided both the technical and real-world training as it related to lighting. He was open to any questions we asked. He also made sure everyone kept up. It was a great experience, and I am looking forward to his next training sessions. ? --Huzefam

? Neil's workshop was more than I expected! He created an open learning environment and had all the professional equipment for us to work with. Neil did a great job answering questions and encouraging participation. He was very knowledgeable with all types of photography and techniques. I highly recommended his workshops and am looking forward to part 2! ? --Erika

? Got exactly what I was looking for out of the session. Neil was great at adapting to the level of the attendees, and was able to modify contents accordingly. Thanks Neil ! ? --Rob
