Vernal Pool Exploration Walk

Details
Every year the salamanders, frogs and many other species emerge from the seasonal wetlands to seek out mates and begin the cycle of life. Usually, there is one "Big Night" where rainy weather initiates a mass migration of salamanders and various frog species to migrate from their winter hibernation spots to the vernal pool of their birth where they will seek a mate. Vernal pools are where the action happens this time of year and we're going to check it out!
Join Ryan Busby and other naturalists in a twilight exploration of the extensive vernal pool network at Rocky Hills Preserve in South Berwick, ME. We will be seeking out signs of life in the pools including, salamanders, frogs, caddisflies, and other inhabitants of this integral forest ecosystem. Children are welcome and encouraged to attend!
This is a free event that is part of the "Big Night Series" organized by the South Berwick Conservation Commission and a group of private citizens including Ryan. Any donations you provide will go directly towards supporting the guides.
Attend a webinar on January 26th 6-7pm with Maine Wildlife Biologist, Greg LeClair, for a webinar on vernal pools and South Berwick’s Big Night! More info here: https://southberwicklibrary.org/calendar/greg-leclair-big-night-webinar/
