DJ Enriquez from Glympse will talk to us about Immutable Infrastructure. Immutable infrastructure is a practice for infrastructure management that continues to grow in popularity due to the advent of cloud computer and containerization. DJ Enriquez, who leads the DevOps efforts at Seattle-bred startup, Glympse, will share tips on how this can be achieved in an AWS environment using technologies like cloud-init, S3, HashiCorp's Consul and your favorite CI tool, whatever that may be. Gone are the days where servers need maintenance, if an issue exists, we simply terminate the instance and let immutability carry us into the future.
Marius Grigoriu is a dev manager at Nordstrom will be presenting on Kubernetes.
Learn how Nordstrom built an operational platform to give engineering teams at Nordstrom a serverless-like experience for any application that can fit in a Linux container. Using Kubernetes and several other open source projects, Nordstrom can deploy and scale applications in seconds, reduce the likelihood and impact of disasters, achieve high machine utilization, and run applications with minimal ops-burden for teams.
Marius will share how Nordstrom’s Kubernetes-based platform can solve Nordstrom’s top tech challenges, the design of the platform, and how it might evolve in the future. Before closing, Marius will perform several demos in a live, production environment.
Bio: Marius Grigoriu is a dev manager at Nordstrom whose teams run the systems that engineers use to ship code; everything from source control, CI and CD, and Kubernetes. He spent the last 10 years of his software career getting teams to ship high quality software on time, on budget, all while showing them how to have fun in the process. Marius crafts custom plans for his teams that span project management techniques, writing clean, readable, and testable code, deployment practices, and ops minimization.
