Redwood model based approach

The Coast Redwood is the fastest growing gymnosperm tree in the world. Open-grown trees may grow 4-6 feet per year in height in the age range of 4-10 years and 2 feet per year for at least 30 years. They can live for more than 2,000 years.

These California trees can reach heights of more than 320 feet, so high that the tops are out of sight. The roots of a redwood rarely grow deeper than 12 feet below the forest floor. The reason that they grow so fast and so high without deep roots is because they spread laterally; interlocking with adjacent tree roots for stability.
