Zaitoun: Recipes From the Palestinian Kitchen (Virtual Meetup)
Details
"Featuring over 80 accessible recipes, with a special focus on vegetarian versions of Palestinian classics, Khan’s recipes include herb-filled salads, quick pickles, fragrant soups, tender roasted meat dishes and rich desserts, surrounded by a chorus of stories from those who live, love and cook with Palestine in their hearts."
"Yasmin Khan draws on her vast experience as a storyteller, cook, human rights activist, itinerant traveler and writer to create a moving, empathetic, hugely knowledgeable and utterly delicious book" - Anthony Bourdain
"Her work sits on the intersection of food, travel and politics and her critically-acclaimed books, The Saffron Tales and Zaitoun, use everyday stories to human connection to challenge stereotypes of the Middle East and celebrate beauty in places more commonly associated with conflict."

How will this virtual event work?
Two ways to participate!
- Join the month-long virtual Meetup and/or
- Join the video chat on 1/7/21 to talk "face to face". To join the video chat sign up here, it will be limited to the first 10 people and a link will be sent on 1/6/21: https://1drv.ms/x/s!AlH4v_ZDJ_iUhvs910g7NoxjTCAlug
Flexible schedule! Cook at any point through 1/7/21. You don't have to bring serving utensils, worry about reheating, spill anything on the way over, or run late :). Even if you are joining the video chat, it's completely up to you if you want to eat one of these recipes during the call or just join for the chat.
Share with community! Pick a dish from the blog, make it, post a picture (please label with title of recipe), write in the comments of the event what you made and what you thought of it - share advice, what you swapped, a review, etc. Same as we did in person!
All the cooking! Make as many or as few dishes as you'd like over the coming weeks and post as you go - no matter if it's a "duplicate" that someone else has made.
Unlimited RSVPs! Everyone can join the virtual event to participate in the Meetup discussions and photo share. Only the video call will be limited to 10 people to keep it manageable. This is an experiment, we'll see how it goes. If we have a lot of interest I'll consider splitting up into multiple calls or "tables" 😉
If anyone else wants to virtually host an event please reach out to me. Thank you for being part of our community!
