Seattle Erlang and Elixir User Group

Hi All,

Many thanks for registering to the user group. Since you signed up, we've expanded the scope to include Elixir. If you have not heard of Elixir, it is a language on the Erlang Virtual Machine with Ruby like syntax and meta programming. With a book from Pragmatic and one from O'Reilly, it is getting a loyal set of followers. The overlap between Erlang and Elixir is huge, with common runtime, common tool chains, VM and concepts. Joining the two for the time being makes sense.

We are waiting for a critical mass before calling the first meetup, expecting it to take place in the early fall. Please tell your friends and help us spread the word. There are lots of Erlang users and top notch companies in the Seattle area. If you are one of them and want to host, sponsor or speak, let us know!

What we are hoping to kicking off together with the meetups is a weekly (or bi-weekly) session for Etudes for Erlang. We can later follow on and do one for Elixir:
Etudes are a set of exercises which attendees can do, either before attending, or while there. What usually happens is that the easier chapters can be solved there. In later stages, those attending prepare the exercises before coming, and compare solutions. They have been successfully doing this at the NY Erlang user group. Experienced people mentor the junior ones. It is a great way to build community while learning.

Let us have your thoughts via the message board.

Meet you all soon,
Seattle, WA
