Developing for K8s with CI/CD and IaC

Details

Hello Seattle Kubernauts!

Our first meetup of the year (and decade) is rapidly approaching. This month we have a couple talks that focus on the development process on K8s.

First we’ll hear from Angel Riveria as he presents “Increase App Confidence using CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code.” Ever run code changes through CI/CD and everything passed clean and green in the pipeline checks, then experience undetected critical failures in the live target environment post-deployment? In most cases this behavior can be eliminated by running basic smoke tests on the application live in their target environments.

In this talk Angel will discuss the advantages of implementing smoke test patterns into CI/CD pipelines using Infrastructure as Code (IaC). He will discuss how teams can leverage automation to ensure apps are tested live in target environments which provide valuable insights pre-deployment. He will also demonstrate how to leverage IaC to provision Kubernetes clusters, deploy apps, test live, and then destroy all the resources created in a single CI/CD pipeline run.

Second on the program is Mike Metral presenting “Ephemeral Kubernetes.” On the heels of DeliveryConf, he’ll review how to use Pulumi in CI/CD and development to provision, manage, and test Kubernetes clusters and their applications. Pulumi is a modern IaC tool to declare cloud infrastructure using real languages, and enable developers and operators to work better together.

SPONSORED: Thanks to the great team at Pulumi for hosting us and arranging this month's presentations. Thank you also to NetApp for continuing support.
