What we're about

This is a group for anyone interested in any language or world culture. Any level of experience with a language is welcome. Ideally we will have people that:

1. only know one language but are interested in learning their first foreign tongue, or

2. are native speakers of other languages (including English) or

3. people who have mastered (to varying degrees) one or more languages besides his/her native language(i.e. polyglots).

This group is a social group focused on language learning, cultural enrichment and language exchange.

Harassment - This group does not tolerate sexual harassment or other forms of harassment. Please do not come to this group expressly looking for a date. If you meet someone you like at an event, that's fine. Please be respectful of any cultural differences.

Discrimination - This group welcomes all language learners and language speakers regardless of nationality, race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, etc.

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to one of the organizers for assistance.

Multilevel Marketing: If you have a 'business' that relates to multi-level marketing - you agree to never solicit or invite members who you meet through SCB. This is grounds for removal without prior notice.

Attendance Policy

There are many understandable last minute reasons for not being able to attend. However, cancelling less than 24 hours before an event is inconsiderate and disruptive. Three last minute cancellations (less than 24 hours) or "no shows" (within a one-year rolling period) will result in removal from the group. We're not angry. We're just disappointed. **You can apply to rejoin.**

Marking "no shows" is at the discretion of the event host. You can message the event host if you disagree with their decision. We do not plan to issue warnings for every incident. Please track your own attendance. We're sorry that we have to do this, but it's just not fair to everyone else.

Wait Lists: If you are on a wait list for an event, please check your status up to 24 hours prior to the event as you can be added up until that point. Please note that only members marked as "going" to an event may attend, not those on a wait list.

International Karaoke

Location visible to members

If you like to sing in the shower, in your car, or on the street, then come and join us to sing your heart out in the languages that you like. Singing karaoke has been found to be not only therapeutic 🙃 but it also helps to improve on the pronunciation of the new language that one is learning.
You will see the Zoom meeting link on this Meetup group once you have RSVPed. At or before the meeting, open a YouTube window and find your songs by typing in the name of the song followed by the word “karaoke.” When it is your turn to sing, share your YouTube window with the “Share Audio” option checked and you are ready to rock. Don’t worry if this is too confusing as I can also share my screen with your song for you to sing.
Karaoke is for us “thick skin” people who don’t care what others think about our singing. We sing for fun, to de-stress oneself, and to stress out our listeners 🤪
