Come dance with us! New dance classes starting Thursday, February 21st, in south Everett. Great location right across from beautiful Silver Lake, with lots of free parking and very easy to get to by car or bus.
We will be starting 2 6-week class series, with the potential to continue longer or change to a different dance after 6 weeks depending on the interest of the students. One series will be Country Waltz, a fairly easy but beautiful social dance that works to most songs in 3/4 time, regardless of tempo (slow/fast/medium). You WILL almost always be able to dance to waltz songs if you learn this dance. :)
The 2nd series will be West Coast Swing, another fun and versatile dance that works to a lot of different kinds of music. Usually danced to songs in 4/4 with a bit of an upbeat or swing, this dance often works to pop, blues, funk, and many other styles of music. Very much fun, and the class will break it all down and make it fun and easy to learn.
We will have both classes back to back. Country Waltz class will be from 6 - 7pm, and West Coast Swing class will be from 7 - 8pm.
Each class will cost $10 per student per class, with payment expected at the beginning of class. Please bring cash.
You are also welcome to join our event posting on Facebook if you use it, at https://www.facebook.com/events/207627152708599/?ref=ts&fref=ts . You can also invite friends from there. I have also created a CL ad at http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/cls/3613852246.html .
All classes are open to people of all genders and gender expressions, and all orientations. These are partner dances with leads and follows, and those roles will be called as "lead" and "follow", not by traditional gender designation. Any individual is welcome to lead or follow by their own preference, but I ask that all students please be respectful of all other students. GLBTQ students and people of nonconventional gender are explicitly welcome. Please be advised that the teacher is a lesbian geek with trans* family members, and will not tolerate homophobia, transphobia, "nerd-phobia", or other hate/fear based discrimination among students. My goal is to create a fun and safe place for all interested students to learn.
I am also looking for a co-teacher for these classes. If you can already dance Country, Swing, and other common social dances and would be comfortable teaching with me up here, please let me know. Paid position, but not a lot of pay (unless the classes are surprisingly wildly successful ;) ). Full ad here: http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/vol/3613869414.html
