Please join us to play with earth! In this hands-on workshop you will learn everything you need to know to build your own backyard wood-fired cob oven, an excellent way to make gourmet artisanal breads and pizzas to share with friends and family.
“Cob”, an ancient natural building material made from clay and sand naturally holds heat making it an obvious choice for a wood-fired oven.
Workshop participants will :
- Build a foundation for the oven using a variety of natural/recycled materials
- Insulate the oven using glass bottles, straw, and clay
- Identify suitable soil for making cob
- Mix cob and use it to build the oven dome with an artistic expression
Allison Dercoli - Experienced Earth house and oven builder on Camano Island will discuss soil and clay testing methods, harvesting materials and full-on oven building from the ground up!
