EXPLORING THE PALOUSE with David Julian & Alan Lawrence
THE PALOUSE is Eastern WA's agricultural centerpiece— expansive, sensual and rich in historic detail. Join professional photographers and instructors David Julian and Alan Lawrence on a rural adventure to explore and photograph amazing history, landscape, buildings, rusty vehicles, livestock and wildlife. We've explored the region and consulted with dozens of locals to choose the best locations and timing to deliver a fantastic photographic experience. And then we show you how to develop your photos in Lightroom or Photoshop for the best color, contrast and detail. STUNNING! Eastern Washington's Palouse is a rich farming area of almost 3000 miles reminiscent of Tuscany. The main crop is Wheat and Canola, with other grains. We explore hills of greens, golds and coppers against a the blue of clean skies. We capture the colors of sunrise, shoot in late day 'sweet light', sunset and spend time in between shooting textures, aged machinery, and old structures plus serendipitous surprises. We shoot starry skies and a wind farm. Of course, we include opportunity-timed trips to Steptoe Butte! If you love rural history, the richness of the earth contrasting the patina of aging wood and metal, this trip is for you. BUT WHY US? We're not another Palouse cookie-cutter tour. You benefit from our countless hours of scouting, research, planning and making local connections. We visit locations we've discovered that are not on the photo-tourism maps. We also visit a famous fifth-generation farmer, learn rich Palouse history and sustainable farming. We house you at the Best Western in Colfax where you will enjoy a queen sized bed and included breakfasts. We drive you throughout the tour, saving you hours of trial and error when you could be shooting. Our trip is timed to take advantage of great weather, long days, ripe crops and long Solstice daylight. We provide instructional guidance, individual coaching and options for your solo wandering during the off-shooting hours. We're the very lowest-priced tour providing both housing and transport, 1:1 guidance and professional post-production tips, plus two instructors. TRANSPORTATION: All transportation during the workshop is provided. We roam the Palouse in a single passenger van. This minimizes our impact, allows for discussion and greater spontaneity for opportunities. While most folks drive in from Seattle, some folks fly into Pullman 30 minutes away and carpool or take a shuttle to Colfax. PHYSICAL HEALTH: Participants must be able to get in and out of a multi-seat van without mechanical assistance. We park within 50 yards of our subjects, and hiking beyond that is optional. Those with significant allergies to agricultural pollens should bring sufficient meds. You can find dietary food alternatives wherever we eat. We'll email more details on what to bring closer to tour date. INSTRUCTIONAL TOPICS INCLUDE: • Telling the Palouse Story • Capturing a sense of place and time • Seeing, creative composition, image design • Creating dramatic landscapes • Macro techniques • Creative depth of field for sharp subjects and soft backgrounds • Focus stacking for front to back sharpness • What to carry and Field techniques • HDR for full dynamic range where light is highly variable • Demo of expert processing in Lightroom • Creative B&W processing and Toning • ...and more as we learn your interests –––-----•---–––———–––---•---––– LIMITED TO THE TEN PARTICIPANTS. $1350. - Workshop with shared room and breakfast (Double Occupancy) $1550. - Workshop with private room and breakfast *see below* @---------------------------------@ WE ARE PROVIDING AN EARLY REGISTRATION DISCOUNT of $150 off until March 25 @---------------------------------@ HERE IS WHERE TO REGISTER: RSVPs on Meetup won't save your spot to this tour.
