Everett Harbor/Port Gardner Paddle

Description: We are going to paddle around Everett Harbor and Port Gardner. The route will depend upon wind and weather conditions. At the least, we will paddle around the Snohomish River estuary, Jetty Island and southern Port Gardner. If conditions are better than predicted, we may paddle directly out and around Hat Island (Gedney Island), where grey whales have been seen recently by several parties.

Sign-up Requirements:

This is a spring paddle in cold water that will be subject to wind waves. The paddle distance will be from 8 to 14 nautical miles, depending upon conditions. To sign up for this paddle, you must be an intermediate or advanced paddler with good boat-handling, bracing, re-entry, and rescue skills and be able to paddle a sustained 2.5 knots pace. The required kayaking experience and skills need to be documented in your meetup-profile information and your answers to the sign-up questions. RSVP's without answers to the sign-up questions will be deleted.

Schedule and Preliminary Itinerary:

Itinerary and length of paddle may vary, depending upon conditions.

8:00 a.m. - Meet at the beach, offload and park.

8:30 a.m - Launch, and paddle north into the estuary (high tide is 8:12 a.m.).

~ 10:30 - shore stop on Jetty Island.

~ 12:00 p.m. - shore stop and lunch at Howarth Park.

~ 1:30 p.m. - arrive back at Marine Park and take out.

Conditions and Contingency:

This paddle is contingent upon reasonably safe wind and weather conditions.

Equipment Requirements:

Kayak, paddle, pfd, paddlefloat, pump, sprayskirt, sunglasses, sunscreen, water and snacks, picnic lunch, waterproof hat, VHF radio if you have one, drysuit. Layered warm clothes, waterproof insulated paddle gloves and/or pogies, warm head and ears protection. Extra change of warm clothes in a dry-bag.

Immersion Gear:

Wearing a drysuit is required on this paddle.
