Details

When it comes to the process of design, we are constantly looking at others. Who are we building for? Why are we building for them? What do they need? What’s the solution?

We’re constantly working with others. Pitching ideas. Brainstorming. Analyzing.

As designers, our focus is always on someone else. And when it comes to inclusive design, our focus is to make sure we make that design work for everyone.

But what if we’ve got it all wrong? What if the key to building inclusive design wasn’t to focus on everyone else around you, but to first look at yourself?

Join Jessica Eggert, Founder of IncludeGlobal, speaker, woman in tech, and HR strategist as she discusses how inclusion starts with “I”.

This event is a collaborative effort between Seattle IxDA (http://ixdaseattle.org) (we're the organizer of the IA/UX Meetup!) and Ladies that UX (http://ladiesthatux.com/seattle/).

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Jessica Eggert (https://www.jessicaeggert.com/) (@jess_eggert (https://twitter.com/jess_eggert)) is an HR Business Partner at RealSelf and the Founder of IncludeGlobal, an inclusion and diversity consulting firm in Seattle. Jessica spent her past few years in the tech industry pushing to bring more diversity in, before realizing that a lack of inclusion was the key driver to keeping underrepresented people out and make those already in feel not wanted or respected. She created IncludeGlobal to change that, focusing on helping organizations integrate inclusion into their organizations from the ground up.

Prior to this, Jessica ran global HR and internal operations for a tech firm on the east coast, creating inclusive and collaborative environments across the world. When she's not working, you can find her in the mountains or on the soccer field with her husband and son, creating social impact alongside the World Economic Forum's Global Shapers Seattle Hub, or studying for her Masters in Industrial Organizational Psychology.
