July WordPress Meetup

This month begins our new venue and brand new format! Instead of one main talk with breakout groups following we will now have 3 tracks that start promptly at 7:00 PM.

Check-in starts at 6:30pm, so feel free to come early and socialize. We have the space till 9:00 PM for additional networking and Q&A.

Directions

The building is the Russell Investments Center on 2nd Ave. Enter the building from 2nd ave and take the elevator to the 17th floor. Exit towards the amazing Puget Sound vista and there we are! See pictures at http://wpseattle.org/2013/06/15/new-venue-and-format/

Transportation & Parking

There are numerous parking lots downtown near the building, including across the street under Benaroya hall, and a large structure kiddy corner on the other side of Union st. There is also street parking, which is free after 8pm.

For you bus riders, there is a metro stop at Benaroya hall, which is right across the street.

Thanks to Jaffe for the great presentation on ACF!

For those developers already using it, I've been working on a function to help make outputting fields even easier and would love any feedback you might have.

You can see the function on https://gist.github.com/mrwweb/5768363 and get in touch with me on my profile through my website, Twitter, etc.

For those of you that really want pizza tomorrow I would recomend trying out the Alibi Room in Post Alley. They were hosting our Dev Meet Up so we know they have great food and they are open past the normal Pike Place Market hours. Not to mention it is a quick and easy walk from there to the new meet up spot.
Here is their new website (built in WorPress of course) www.seattlealibi.com

  • Sheila H.

Just got the meeting notice. I'm wondering now that there'll be no pizza, is it OK to bring my own food to this venue or is that frowned upon? Looking forward to seeing everyone.

    July 10, 2013

    • Grant L.

Great question Sheila. Due to the venue's food policies, bringing your own food isn't encouraged, however if that's the only solution for people to attend and eat, we won't be enforcing the no food policy harshly. If you can help it, I'd try to arrange your food before the meetup. If that's not possible, try and be discrete and mindful of the venue's policy.

I used WordPress to create a website for Team Survivor Northwest, a local non-profit. We're on the lookout for a volunteer developer to take us to V2. If you're interested, look for me at the meeting.

Thanks Bruce. Linda, if you need anything, we'll have a volunteer or two down at the entrance helping everyone find the new spot. Feel free to ask one of them for assistance!

Thanks Grant, that's great advice! I live in Salt Lake City but will be visiting Seattle June 29-July 10. I wanted to get to know some folks. See if Seattle's a good fit. My little web development firm is doing well and I'm taking this show on the road!

Cool, good to know Sara. Too bad our meetup is the day after you go! Feel free to get active in the forums, and follow @wpseattle and @wordcampseattle to stay connected with us and others in the community!

      June 17, 2013

  • Candice

Will any meetup might be held at north area?

    June 12, 2013

    • Grant L.

Not that I know of Candice. In the future we would love to let people propose smaller, more location specific meetups, but use this awesome community platform. That's still in the works... but feel free to network with others in the forums or at the main meetup and talk about forming a smaller group in your area.

Yes! Although our specific speakers may not be speaking about that this month, customizing themes is a big topic for our designers/themers group. Make sure to come with questions!
