Missing Persons OSINT CTF - A debrief by players and judges

  • Description -
On the 11th October 2019 TraceLabs and AustCyber launched a nation-wide search for people who have gone 'missing' - and asked a bunch of hackers to track them down.

The event was the first of it's kind on a national scale and saw thousands of pieces of information submitted to Federal Police. The information was sourced from Open-Source Intelligence, in a Capture-The-Flag style event.

TALK ONE:
The traige perspective - Allen Baranov

Allen will talk about his experience being a judge and handing the deluge of information and leads submitted by the winning team. Towards the end of the night, Allen will fill us in on a few more details related to Trace Labs and other Missing Persons OSINT CTFs.

TALK TWO:
The player perspective - Telstra OSINT Team (Caleb Spratt, Morgan Reed, Adrian Podgorski)

Yes, Telstra has a team dedicated to Open-Source Intelligence. They lived up to their name, taking out 1st place in Victoria and 3rd in the whole of Australia. The team will cover their daily work and activities at Telstra, OSINT mindset, playing in the CTF, recommendations and tools.
