Our meetup was created to support and promote humanism in the Greater Quad Cities. Our group is for atheists, humanists, freethinkers, skeptics and others with a naturalistic worldview to find support for their commitment to reason in a culture too often inundated by religion and irrational thought. We meet for fun, friendship, discussions, films and more.
There is no mandatory joining fee but a suggested yearly donation of $5.00 payable using the "Chip In" button is greatly appreciated to cover the cost of the meetup site and printed materials.
We'll be discussing "Success and Luck: Good Fortune and the Myth of Meritocracy" by Robert H. Frank at the Bettendorf Library.
"How important is luck in economic success? No question more reliably divides conservatives from liberals. In Success and Luck, bestselling author and New York Times economics columnist Robert Frank explores the surprising implications of those findings to show why the rich underestimate the importance of luck in success―and why that hurts everyone, even the wealthy."
The book is just over 200 pages, well written and is readily available. Hope to see you there.
Let's get together and share some crafts we work on and discuss ideas for a future casual group that meets and works on their own and/or group art/craft projects together. This might be a good way to get to know each other better and finally finish the knitted socks, scrapbooks etc. I've picked a coffee shop that has lots of space and a good gathering atmosphere.
I've set the date in the future. Will work to get a date that works best. Probably will stay with Saturday afternoon.
