What we're about

This group is for anyone 55+ who wants to have fun and make new friends.

Some of the things I would like to do are eating out, movies, theater, road trips, game nights, coffee, museums, walks, and whatever other fun things we can think of.

A few simple rules:

1. Please be respectful of everyone in the group. Keep your RSVP's up to date. If you sign up for an event and later find that you can't go, change your RSVP to "No" as soon as possible. This will allow others to sign up if space is limited, and will keep us from waiting for you if you are not coming.

*** NOTE: Multiple no-shows (where you don’t show up and have not changed your rsvp from “yes” to “no”) will result in your being removed from the group.***

2. Please post a recognizable picture of yourself on your profile (not just your pet, flowers, scenery, etc). This is so we can recognize you at events.

3. No talk about politics or religion. We want everyone to feel welcome and don't want any arguments and drama.

4. Be friendly and welcoming to newcomers.

5. This group is for making friends IN PERSON. Do NOT private message people that you don't know (except for messaging the organizers, of course, you can message us about meetup things). If you receive unwanted messages, please let me know and I will deal with it. I want everyone to feel comfortable in this group.

Looking forward to meeting you and having fun together!

Harvest Festival at El Rancho de las Golondrinas

El Rancho de las Golondrinas

Fall is one of the most beautiful seasons in NM. And we are lucky to live so close to one of the best 'old timey' fall festivals in the nation at El Rancho de las Golondrinas. Las Golondrinas is a living Spanish village that includes a hacienda, village store, schoolhouse & more with costumed workers with many demonstrations of the fall harvesting that took place 100 + years ago. Some of the activities to see include weaving, yarn dyeing, stringing chilis, making molasses, horseshoeing, grinding wheat and corn, making tortillas, etc. There will be food to purchase and live music. WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES, as there is a fair amount of walking to see everything (i.e., no scooters available to take you from the 'barn' to the kitchen). Cost is as follows: Adults $8 Seniors (62+) $6 Las Golondrinas is between Albuquerque and Santa Fe in the foothills of the village of La Cienega. It will take a bit more than an hour to get there. Their website has a lot of wonderful pictures. The link is here https://golondrinas.org/

Walking Albuquerque #1 - Downtown

Location visible to members

I would like to start doing the walks in the book “Walking Albuquerque”. You do not need the book, but you are welcome to bring it if you want to follow the descriptions. Today we will do the first walk, called “The Downtown Scene”. Meet on the southwest corner of Broadway Blvd and Central Ave. There is a parking lot there, but you don’t have to park in that lot. I understand there is free parking on some of the streets. Here is a map of downtown parking: https://www.cabq.gov/municipaldevelopment/documents/coa-parking-map.pdf We will be meeting at lot #52 on the map. This is a 2 mile walk, rated “easy”. We will be walking west to 7th Street (on Central and other nearby streets) then back east to 2nd Street, north almost to Lomas, then back to our starting point. There are a lot of sights along the way. We will stop for lunch partway through our walk, at Mas Tapas y Vino in the Hotel Andaluz: https://hotelandaluz.com/mas-tapas-y-vino/ We will not have reservations. They said at lunchtime we should be able to just walk in. I have not done this walk before, so I don’t know what to expect. It should be a fun adventure! Check Meetup the morning of the walk. If the weather is bad (which I can’t imagine), I will reschedule.
