Due to Covid-19, we will not be hosting any projects at the Nursing home for a few months. I will do my best to keep you updated. If you are interested to learn how else you can assist the residents please contact me (Doug, group organizer)
This volunteer group's goal is to brighten the day of seniors/elderly at various skilled nursing or assisted living homes. We manage two types of volunteer projects: Game Night which involves running Bingo games for residents and Pet Visits which involves volunteers bringing their dog to visit residents.
Before you join please make sure you read our Volunteer Guidelines and waiver below.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to join this group and volunteer on their own. Children under 18 can participate with a parent.
SENIOR SIDEKICKS VOLUNTEER GUIDELINES
Thank you so much for choosing to volunteer with Senior Sidekicks!
Our goal is to brighten the day for residents of nursing homes or assisted living facilities.
We can only achieve our goal volunteers commit to these volunteer guidelines. Thank you in advance for your partnership!
1. PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENT
Each volunteer must attend at least one meetup every 90 days. Although joining the group is free for volunteers, there is a cost for organizers and meetup charges higher fees based on number of members. Plus we can only cheer up residents if volunteers actually visit the seniors.
2. CANCELLATION POLICY
Schedules change! Life happens! We understand! However, we ask that when you need to cancel a volunteer meetup for which you’ve registered, that you always remove yourself from any volunteer meetup through the Senior Sidekicks meetup. We know that no one skips a project intentionally.
However, please keep in mind that when volunteers do not show up for meetups as scheduled or cancel with little notice, it inconveniences the people/agencies we are trying to help; harms our relationships with our partner agencies; makes it very difficult for our event organizers to manage meetups; and prevents available volunteers from registering.
What happens if you repeatedly cancel?
You may be removed from the group. If your schedule is unpredictable or you do not regularly check email, please consider whether Senior Sidekicks is a good fit for you. If you have more than one unexcused absence from a meetup you will be removed from the group.
What happens if you were registered for a meetup and are not verified as “ATTENDED” by the Volunteer Leader?
We will send a follow-up email. Please respond and confirm your attendance; sometimes we make mistakes.
3. FAMILY VOLUNTEER POLICY
Parents/Guardians must be present and actively participate with their children (ages 6-17 years) during the entire duration of the meetup. Children cannot be dropped off at projects. A group of dedicated volunteers that loves visiting seniors manage Senior Sidekicks. We are not a non-profit organization so volunteer hours may not be approved by your school or group.
4. MEDIA/PHOTO POLICY
Due to strict privacy laws, volunteers are not permitted to take photos/videos of agency clients/residents. No posting pictures online. This includes Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, etc.
5. COURT-ORDERED VOLUNTEERS
Senior Sidekicks does not accept court-ordered or lawyer-recommended volunteers.

History of our Group
The Senior Sidekicks meetup group began in June 2019 in response to the end of Hands On Charlotte's calendar program. Since 1991 this non-profit had been managing various volunteer opportunities for individuals including those at senior centers. The former volunteer leaders decided to continue the volunteer projects after the volunteer project was phased out.
