Malaysian Food @ Bunga Raya in New Lynn

Location image of event venue

This week we'll be sitting at several large tables with turntables in the middle, an excellent opportunity for meal sharing and experiencing lots of taste sensations.

One of our Food Social members, Laurel, knows this restaurant and its menu very well and we would like to have her order the meals for each table, using her knowledge and experience to provide us with a great, balanced dining experience.

We trust that is okay with everyone. It's great to draw on member's strengths and experience when we can.

This Malaysian restaurant comes highly recommended in reviews and by some Food Social members who rave about the food there. Simple surroundings, but clean and they can accommodate a big group of us across 2-3 tables.

It is located just off Great North Road in the middle of New Lynn, close to McDonalds and NZ Post. Easy parking, and for those using public transport, the bus and train hub is just a few hundred metres away.

Here's some comments from recent reviews:

"Really lovely, knowledgeable service, great food and generous portions!"

"Excellent service and fantastic food. The best squid dish I’ve ever tasted – so tender and the rich flavour of deep fried chili and XO sauce – superb. It’s not “fine dining” but its real fine food."

"All dishes exceeded expectations. Highlight of this place are the proprietors. Service with a smile indeed. They lit up the room and elevated the evening with their helpful suggestions and advice. "

"A must try in Auckland. Fantastic service – John and Rita are lovely people. We eat at Bunga Raya for all kinds of occasions (mostly because we miss the food!) and they do their best to accommodate to our needs. They also remember your special requests. Such service and good food is rare around Auckland and Bunga Raya is definitely a gem. Try their Assam Fish, home-made tofu with special sauce and Rendang(s) for the best taste of Malaysia. Hokkien Mee and Mee Goreng are also very good."
