Building data, message, and REST API driven apps with Apache OpenWhisk on IBM Cloud Functions

Learn why serverless architectures are attractive for many emerging cloud workloads, when you should consider Apache OpenWhisk for your next project, and see demos on how to deploy and manage these three common workloads on IBM Cloud Functions.

Libraries as a Service

Serverless emphasizes on reusability of a function as a deployable unit. Unlike a function, a library needs to be first embedded into a service, compiled with it, then deployed somewhere, before becoming consumable. Functions may incorporate libraries as well. But what if we could annotate libraries with enough metadata information to make them directly deployable in serverless environments ? It should make it easier for serverless based applications to reuse the code in this way. This talk is going to explore this option, taking existing libraries, and deploying them in multiple serverless solutions, in order to observe the results, while looking at the pros and cons of such an approach.
