The Heart Sutra - A Teaching with Geshe Kelsang Wangmo

Details
The Heart Sutra is the most widely known sutra of the Mahayana tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. It is part of the Prajnaparamita Sutras and is a presentation of profound wisdom on the nature of emptiness.
During her teaching, Geshe Kelsang Wangmo will discuss the Heart Sutra in relation to the profound wisdom of emptiness and the Two Truths: the conventional or surface level of reality and the ultimate level of reality.
She will also discuss the hidden meaning of the Heart Sutra that pertains to compassion and the progressive stages of spiritual development eventually culminating in the attainment of full enlightenment.
Shantideva Meditation Center is delighted to welcome back Geshe Kelsang Wangmo, who in 2011 made history by becoming the first and currently only woman to be awarded a Geshe degree. This special evening will conclude her US teaching tour.
We also rejoice that the teaching will occur on the special day marking Shakyamuni Buddha’s acceptance to descend from the God Realm of Thirty-three.

Geshe Wangmo recommends students to read the Essence of the Heart Sutra (http://www.wisdompubs.org/book/essence-heart-sutra) by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Geshe-la recommends reading the entire book; students with less time may read Chapter 6 onwards.
About the Teacher:
Venerable Geshe Kelsang Wangmo was born and raised in Germany. In 2011 she was awarded the Rime Geshe degree after completing her studies in the traditional Geshe curriculum of the Great Canonical Texts study program at the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics (IBD) in Dharamsala. This seventeen-year course focused on study and debate of the Five Great Canonical Texts according to the Gelukpa tradition as well as several semesters of study and debate in monasteries of the Nyingma, Kagyu, and Sakya traditions.
Since 2004 she has taught Buddhist philosophy classes following the curriculum of the traditional Geshe study program, in English, to Westerners living in Dharamsala.
