What we're about

This group is for adults who like to hike, snowshoe, x-country ski, kayak, canoe, bicycle and pursue other outdoor activities. We will focus these activities in the Shawangunk Mountains and in other Hudson Valley locations like the Catskills, Taconics, Hudson Highlands on both sides of the river, and other areas we find interesting. Hikes and other activities will range from easy to difficult. The pace may be slow, moderate or even somewhat brisk (depending on your fitness level and experience), but our coordinators will attempt to make certain that everyone finishes as part of the group.

Come Hike Historic Mills Mansion Along the Beautiful Hudson River

Come join Dan and I as we explore this beautiful historic park located in Staatsburg, NY. We will be hiking along the majestic Hudson River and through some gorgeous, wooded areas. Our goal is to complete about 5-6 miles or so. This is a good beginner hike and/or a lovely Sunday Funday hike.

Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park adjoins Ogden Mills and Ruth Livingston Mills Memorial State Park and together, comprise more than 1,000 acres. Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park offers a full menu of exhilarating recreational opportunities and activities for visitors of all ages. The numerous trails that thread through the grounds of both Mills and Norrie State Parks are ideal for walking, jogging, hiking, cycling, cross country skiing, and snow shoeing - treating visitors to fabulous views of the Hudson River which runs directly along the parks' western boundaries. (I plagiarized this piece). When we hiked this park last year we spied a Bald Eagle.

Mansion - Friends of Mills at Staatsburgh (millsfriends.org)

For those interested, we will grab some eats and drinks after hike. Location to be announced.

Please pay attention to the comment's section/event chat for important announcements, event cancellations and/or rescheduling due to weather.

We will be hiking at a moderate pace. Our main goal is for us to have FUN, LAUGH and enjoy a sense of camaraderie. We stay together as a group. We take breaks as needed. We take time to enjoy heavenly views. We will have a sweep to ensure everyone’s safety. BE SURE TO BRING PLENTY OF WATER, wear hiking boots with good tread and wear appropriate clothing. Hiking times are an approximation and depends on the makeup of the hiking group. IF YOU HAVE A NEED FOR SPEED THIS IS NOT THE HIKE FOR YOU!

Microspikes (or something comparable, not Yaktrax) are required. Also bring snacks, and plenty of water.

Do not wear any cotton clothing! Both hiking poles and gaiters are highly recommended. If you have any questions about the hike itself or appropriate gear, please feel free to phone or text me at (845)[masked].

We will likely go to a local restaurant after the event to warm up and enjoy a late breakfast together.
