What we're about

THIS IS FOR ANYONE IN THE SHEFFIELD AREA

Perhaps you've already tried improv and you love it. Maybe you haven't a clue what it is.

It's like a comedy sketch show but completely made up on the spot. It can also be a longer piece of theatre often based on one word or title from the audience. Get out of your comfort zone and do something totally crazy! It's not just for 'confident' people, it's proven to help people who suffer from anxiety and we have many people through the door who say it's helped them.

We'll be posting meetups for The Jam, a monthly event where anyone can get involved; shows run by the various Sheffield groups; and workshops where you can learn from the many experienced Sheffield teachers.

ON HIATUS FOR OBVIOUS REASONS - Sheffield Improv Jam - Free, PWYF

Welcome to the Sheffield Improv Jam, a monthly get together for new and experienced improvisers to play together and have fun. For those who haven't been to a jam before, you stick your name in a hat and as it's pulled out you get to do either a scene or a game, and will be joined on stage by other names from the hat. It's simple and fun, and Alex and Bobby are there to support anyone who hasn't done improv in a long time, or even at all. Doors at 7pm, starts at 730. Free entry but donations welcome at the end. All welcome, regardless of experience.

ON HIATUS FOR OBVIOUS REASONS - Open Improv Workshops

DINA Venue

£5.00

The Sheffield Improv Jam are now running open workshops. Third Tuesday of each month, we'll be running drop-in sessions at DINA. What's the aim of this event? If you've heard of the Jam and are tempted to come along but aren't sure about getting up on stage for the first time, these workshops are for you. We want to give people enough of a grounding in improv itself, and the format of common games, to give you the confidence boost you need to join us on stage at the Jam. Experienced improvisers will benefit from working with new people and others from across the Sheffield scene. About the teachers: Alex and Bobby have combined experience of 20 years in improv. We run the Sheffield Improv Jam, are co-directors of Stürike Comedy (the house team of Little Chicago) and perform as twoprov Joined at the Quip. Bobby is also part of Work in Progress, the improvised workplace comedy, and Alex is co-creator of award the winning twoprov Between Us. We teach and run workshops outside of Sheffield, most commonly with the British Improv Project. Our aim is to support anyone who wants to take a couple of sessions and learn the basics, or push those who want it to improve in their own performance. Have a word with us at the start if you're looking for any particular feedback. Cost: £5 on the door, please bring change. We can offer concessions to those who need it, please message the page.
