What we're about

Open to anyone interested, male and female players welcome, we are family friendly, no previous experience is necessary and many other sport skills will cross over. The club is low pressure and does not require a high level of commitment We all have busy lives, but come out as often as you can, no one will hassle you for missing sessions, however it is useful for people to RSVP up or down.

Camanachd, also known as Shinty, has been played in the Highlands of Scotland for approximately 2000 years. It's a game of the stick and ball variety, similar to Field Hockey and Irish Hurling. There is also a similarity to Golf, in fact some believe Golf and Ice Hockey evolved from Camanachd. Shinty is more aerial than Field Hockey due to the wedge-shaped head of the Shinty Stick (called Caman in Scots Gaelic), and the ball is often played in the air as well as on the ground.

We are mostly beginning/intermediate level players of various ages, one of members has gotten coaching certification from Scotland. There are post session social activities and people in group develop other common interests.

Loaner equipment is available at practices, we practice/play in clothing and equipment similar to soccer or rugby. Cleats or turf shoes are recommended, but not required to give this a try.

Please feel free to visit our website or e-mail info(AT) [replace the (AT) with an @], to get involved and/or ask questions. We are also on FaceBook:
