This sport is open to anyone interested, male and female players are both welcome, we are low pressure and do not require a high level of commitment  We all have busy lives, but come out as often as you can, no one will hassle you for missing sessions.

Note - We take November and December off and resume play on New Years Day with a fun match on the beach at Half Moon Bay, stay tuned for that meetup announcement.

Camanachd, also known as Shinty, has been played in the Highlands of Scotland for approximately 2000 years. It's a game of the stick and ball variety, similar to Field Hockey and Irish Hurling. There is also a similarity to Golf, in fact some believe Golf and Ice Hockey evolved from Camanachd. Shinty is more aerial than Field Hockey due to the wedge-shaped head of the Shinty Stick (called Caman in Scots Gaelic), and the ball is often played in the air as well as on the ground.

We are mostly beginning/intermediate level players of various ages, one of members has gotten coaching certification from Scotland. There are post session social activities and people in group develop other common interests.

We are mainly located in and around the San Francisco Bay Area, with practices held at various locations in the South Bay, North Bay and East Bay. Our membership spans from San Francisco to San Jose and points in between.

Loaner equipment is available at practices (schedule posted at our site: We practice/play in clothing and equipment similar to soccer or rugby. Cleats or turf shoes are recommended, but not required to give this a try.

Please feel free to visit our website or e-mail info(AT) [replace the (AT) with an @], to get involved and/or ask questions. We are also on FaceBook:
