Welcome to our 3rd ShipTech Meetup. Maritime robotics is a growing industry and has already seen success in many areas. We intend to discuss further how the industry is using this new technology and what changes are coming in the future. This will be an informal meetup with 2 short presentations, during and after the presentations there will be beer and some light snacks. To get you mingling we are also organising a ping pong competition.

You will be playing for the honour of your company, so make sure to get some practice in over Christmas.

Topic: Inspection Robots and the future impact robotics will have on the maritime industry

Speaker #1: Luis Benito, Innovation Strategy and Research Director @Lloyds Register

“Going remote” is a hot topic in the world of inspection at the moment. As machines and robots become cheaper and easier to use, Lloyd’s Register is helping industry organizations determine whether they could be used to help make the jobs of inspectors and our clients safer. “Working together for a safer world” is not only a tagline for LR, but our way of life. As a key independent inspection body, LR works hard to adjust regulations for the safer inspection of equipment.

Speaker #2 An-Magritt Tinlund Ryste, Program Manager Autonomy, @Kongsberg Maritime

Kongsberg Maritime is a Norwegian technology enterprise within the Kongsberg Gruppen. Kongsberg Maritime delivers systems for positioning, surveying, navigation and automation to merchant vessels and offshore installations. We hope to learn more about the products they have available and what they see the future holds for the use of robots in the maritime industry. We will also have the privilege of learning more about the Yara Birkeland which is an autonomous container ship that is under construction. This will be the first autonomous ship in the world. The ship is due to be launched in 2018. This meetup has a limited number of attendees, so if you sign up and realise that you can't go, please make sure that you update your RSVP so that someone else can go instead.

Due to security concerns, the doors to the event space will close at 18:15, so please do not show up late.

More details to follow in the new year......
