What we're about

Shoreham-by-sea is a nexus for folk music. Regular Shoreham based events include a round-table session and a performance night each month, a two-day annual festival and a Christmas special. Keep in touch through this meetup if you want to perform, or if you are just an appreciative supporter who wants to listen. All are welcome.

Shoreham Session

Needs a location

The Shoreham Session is a monthly folk session taking place at the Bridge in Shoreham 10-20 musicians gather and each takes it in turn to lead a tune or a song and the others join in or just listen. Of course appreciative non-performers are also welcome to form an audience. Depending on who comes along, you might here accordions, guitars, fiddles, whistles of various sorts, melodeons a nickleharpa and occasionally a hurdy-gurdy. Songs range from shanties and songs of the sea, through music hall, to contemporary ballads. The Bridge Inn (see here http://thebridgeinnshoreham.co.uk) serve real ale and lagers, and also offers gastronomic quality food. We gather from about 8pm to start sometime between 8.30 and 9.00

The Golden Slipper Club

The Swiss Cottage

The Golden Slipper Club is a small select venue where musicians can find an informal environment in which to perform acoustically. Those who like listening to live music will enjoy a relaxed atmosphere in which to appreciate the varied music and styles to be heard there. Musicians perform on an informal stage area, and each act is invited to contribute about three songs in a spot of around 15 minutes. A diverse range of musical styles can be found at the Golden Slipper Club, including folk, blues and contemporary music. On the same night offerings can range from the Beachboys and Ry Cooder to Planxty and Woody Guthrie; from blues to the Blaydon Races and the Black Velvet Band. Performances take place essentially using acoustic instruments, and no amplification is provided.
