Short N Sweet No 6: Pereira Maintains... Antonio Tabucchi
'Pereira Maintains is small only in size. Its themes are great ones - courage, betrayal, fidelity, love, corruption; and its treatment of them is subtle, skilful and clear. It's so clear, in fact, that you can see a very long way down, into the heart of a flawed but valiant human being, into the sickness of a nation, into the depths of political evil.' So says Philip Pullman, but what does he know? Decide for yourself and come and tell us what you think. Please note change of date to mid month as no December meetup, and we need a good book and a glass of wine to beat the January blues. We'll be at the back of the Farm Tavern. Hope to see you there, Anna

What we're about

Love reading good books, but don’t have the time for doorstoppers/multi-generations family sagas? We’ll be reading quality fiction under 200 (ish) pages... plenty of possibilities...Ali Smith, Juan Rulfo, Julian Barnes, Scott Fitzgerald to name but a few. Washed down with your favourite tipple in a carefully selected Brighton/Hove pub (tbc... I’m looking forward to the research...)

We’ll aim for 45 focused discussion followed by as much time as you like for unfocused gossip/chat/heated debate...Last Monday of the month starting July 30th.
