    What we're about

We meet approximately monthly to discuss great modern & contemporary short writing! We read fiction, narrative nonfiction & memoir, and perhaps the occasional poem, across a variety of genres (including so-called "genre fiction") and styles. We strive for diversity of topics, styles, and viewpoints, as well as diversity in terms of authors' personal histories/ identities.

For each meeting we read one piece, or a couple short pieces that are linked by theme or author. Discussion is free form and can range from "I loved/haaaated this & here's why" to the nitty gritty of how the piece was constructed to personal reflections on the topics at hand to a critical theory-based analysis of the piece. However you are so moved...

To start, I (Hope) will be your benevolent dictator of taste. As the group evolves, we may shift around the duty or switch to a more democratic system--reading suggestions and structure input are both welcome!

    Meeting structure is as follows:
First half hour: social time/meet'n'greet. Come at starting time if you're feeling friendly!
Next hour: brief formal intros promptly at half-past, and then free form open discussion
