What we're about

We are the Black Mountain Hiking Section (BMHS) of the Sierra Club Loma Prieta Chapter. We prefer moderate hikes combining good exercise with good companions, appreciation of nature, and plenty of variety. Our hikes are mostly 9-12 miles, 1500-2500 accumulated elevation gain at the pace around 2.5 mph. We hike all over San Francisco Bay Area, from Point Reyes in the North to Pinnacles and Big Sur in the South. In the Winter, we hike mostly on the green hills of East and South Bay till the Spring when they are blanked with wildflowers all over. In the Summer we hike mostly in the redwood forests and cooler coast around the Peninsula.

Our hike leaders are required by Sierra Club to maintain up-to-date training. Our hikers are expected to sign Sierra Club required liability waiver at the beginning of each hike and follow hike leader's direction to stop at every trail junction to regroup. Meetup members who have not hiked with us in a year have to be re-qualified. Some of our hikes will require signup via waitlist with priority given to our active hike leaders, BMHS paid up members and our regular hikers.
