The Sierra Club purpose is to explore, enjoy and protect the wild places. To accomplish that purpose, we organize and lead hikes and trips to all kinds of wild places and we educate the public on environmental issues that affect our quality of life and the planet.

Bear Canyon Hike

Needs a location

O: Bear Canyon Hike 7 miles, 1300 gain, from the Candy Store through chaparral and oaks, via the Bear Canyon Trail to 4 corners, then down to Pidgeon Springs for lunch, then back to the Candy Store. Meet 8:30 am at South OC Rideshare (1 Block east of I-5 on Ortega Highway and Rancho Viejo Road in front of Ball Park Pizza, in San Juan Capistrano). Bring 2 Qts water, lunch, hat, hiking shoes or boots. We will carpool to the FS Parking Lot and Trailhead at the Candy Store. Forest Service Passes required for those driving to the Trailhead. Alternate Meetup at the FS Parking Lot across Ortega Hwy from Candy Store at 9:00 AM. Rain cancels. This is a Sierra Club hike and all Sierra Club Safety Rules and Procedures will be followed. Both Leaders and trained and certified by the Sierra Club. All participants will be required to sign the Sierra Club Waiver of Liability Form prior to going on the hike. Signal Hill Sunset Hike

Needs a location

O: Signal Hill Sunset Hike Join us on a moderate 4 mile, 750 ft gain loop hike exploring the Signal Hill Trail System. The route makes maximum use of the walking trails inside the private residential areas before they close to the public at Sunset. Enjoy 360-degree views to the ocean, San Pedro, Downtown LA and Long Beach, and learn a little about the history of Signal Hill. Afterwards, those interested can join us for refreshments at Mothers Market Cafe and outdoor patio. Meet at 3:25 PM near the entrance of Mothers' Market on Cherry Avenue in Signal Hill. This is a Sierra Club Hike. All Sierra Club Safety Rules and Procedures will be followed during the hike. Both leaders are trained and certified Sierra Club Hike Leaders. Sierra Sage Group, Sierra Club Open House & Chili Cookoff

Norman P Murray Community & Senior Center

O: Sierra Sage Open House You are invited to join us at our annual South Orange County Open House at the Norman P. Murray Center in Mission Viejo. Thinking about joining the Sierra Club? Already a member but are not sure how to help? Just an interested resident? The Open House is for everyone! We will have experts explaining different aspects of the Sierra Club and its activities. CHILI COOKOFF! In addition, we will have a Chili Cookoff Contest. If you want to make Chili, you can bring it and enter. Join the fun, maybe you will be a winner and get an REI gift card. So, come and have a bowl of chili on us! (to enter the contest, contact Patty Sappingfield at[masked] for information and to sign up). Everyone samples the chilis and votes on the one you like best. Laurel/Lizard Trail Loop

Laguna Coast Wilderness - Willow Staging Area

O: Laurel - Lizard Hike Join us for a 5 mile, 500' gain hike in the Laguna Coast Wilderness. Meet at the Willow Staging Parking Lot on the CA -133, Laguna Canyon Hwy at 8:30 AM. $3 parking pass per car. We will hike up the lower Laurel Canyon Trail to the Lizard Trail, then return back to the parking lot via the Bommer Trail and the Willow Trail. Bring Hat, 2 qts/liters of water, and munchies. Rain Cancels. This is a Sierra Club hike. Both Leaders are trained and certified Sierra Club Hike Leaders. All Sierra Club Safety Rules and Procedures will be followed.
