About us
Welcome to the official Ventura Sierra Club meetup group! We are everyone in Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo, Ojai, Santa Paula, Fillmore, Somis, El Rio, Port Hueneme, and all the little places inbetween. Want to hike locally? This is the place to be! Ease into fitness at beginner walks, get going on intermediate half or whole day hikes, or make new friendships on overnight backpacks. Want to volunteer for the environment? Check out our service activities! We do beach/river clean ups, trail repair, native plant restorations and more. Your personal fulfillment awaits! "Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wildness is a necessity; and that mountain parks and reservations are useful not only as fountains of timber and irrigating rivers, but as fountains of life." ~John Muir 1901

Hall Canyon Trail
Hall Canyon Rd, Ventura, Ca, USYou must register for this event and sign the required waiver to participate.
https://act.sierraclub.org/events/details?formcampaignid=701Po00001VNnFNIA1The Ventura Land Trust has recently acquired 1,645 acres of land formally known as Mariano Rancho, now named the Ventura Hills Nature Preserve. Its boundaries are from the Cross at Grant Park to 2 Trees in the hills behide Ventura Hight School. With help from a generous donator and from the State of California, the property will soon have public access for hikers, bikers, dog walkers etc. Last Monday was the soft open of the Hall Canyon trail system and I'd like us to hike part of it.
We'll take the recently opened 101 Trail from the parking lot to almost the microwave tower. It's about a 2.5 mile climb up along a well defined trail with switchbacks, then return to our cars. The elevation, I'm told is about 700 ft. If it is a clear day, there should be a spectacular view.
There is an outhouse in the parking lot, but no water or shade. Predicted temp. is 69f with cloud cover.2 attendees
