Mount Pinos to Sawmill – 9am. Due to recent weather this will be a snow trip requiring snow gear and shoes. Trip will be canceled or rescheduled due to road closures. Mount Pinos to Sawmill is roughly 10.8 mile trek roughly 1500 feet elevation gain. The trail features a beautiful forest setting. This hike is part one of a part two series to hike to the highest peaks in the Santa Clara River Watershed; 3 peaks, 3 county, two day series. Day one will we will be starting at the Chula Vista Trailhead in Los Padres National Forest, trekking to Mt Pinos (Ventura Co) and then Sawmill (Kern Co.). Day 2 will be continuing in early Feb on Mount Pacifico in Los Angeles County. Jim Danza, Chair of Friends of the Santa Clara River, will be a guest educator providing fascinating natural history of the watershed and why it matters. We will be carpooling from Filmore at 9am, Starbucks 650 W Ventura st. The drive is approximately 1.5 hours long and should be arriving at the trailhead at 10:30am. Please bring 2-3L water, lunch, snacks and appropriate attire for winter trek at 8,000 feet. LNT (Leave No Trace) We will be packing out everything we bring on the trail.
