What we’re about

Also known as Happy Hour for introverts, the Silent Book Club started in 2012 with a couple of friends reading in companionable silence at a neighborhood bar.

The concept is simple yet revolutionary: we meet up at a bar or cafe to read in communal silence. Once the bell rings, silent reading time commences. After an hour, the bell rings again.

Other than that, there are no rules.

Liberated from the orthodoxy of traditional book clubs, you can bring whatever you'd like to read. Before and after the designated reading time, you're welcome to chat about anything and everything (including your favorite books).
A typical Silent Book Club Meeting goes like this:
3:00-3:30pm - People arrive, order drinks/food, share what they're reading
3:30-4:30pm - Quiet reading hour
4:30-5:00pm - Optional socializing, or just keep reading

Silent Book Club has over 70 chapters around the globe, with members meeting monthly in Pakistan, Hong Kong, the Netherlands—and now in Berlin! To learn more, visit https://silentbook.club/

One last note: All Silent Book Club meetups are free of charge. But if you'd like to donate a virtual coffee every now and then to help cover the costs of our Meetup membership, we'd really appreciate it: https://ko-fi.com/meetupberlin.
