Value Innovation:  A New Competitive Edge

As the pace of organizational change and complexity accelerates, it’s critical that we find a way to move out of the “Do More with Less” mindset and build our competitive edge at truly doing less to create more time and space for innovation and sustainable value creation.  This session will introduce a framework to shatter our paradigm of “more is better” and replace it with some practical tools to create a culture of Value. Pat will introduce the concept  of Enterprise Value Modeling and demonstrate how to build a "generic" Value Model from typical value drivers.  This is a technique to clarify  enterprise priorities, control scope and provide a clear and transparent line of value sight throughout the organization.  Next we will work in small groups to develop value models and share insights from the experience with the larger group.  We'll wrap this highly interactive session with Q&A and leave with some practical ideas on how we can better apply Agile principles in our 2014 portfolio planning.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the business case and benefits of creating a culture that’s razor focused on optimizing customer value
  • Break the paradigm of "do more with less" and replace with an understanding of why it's critical to "do less"
  • Provide techniques for alignment and clear line of sight on how to deliver optimal value
  • Practice designing and developing an enterprise value model
  • Explore ways to introduce value modeling, value engineering and value management in your organizations
  • Explore practical ideas to take back to your organizations
  • Have fun and share ideas

    Hello All,
I want to know how many PDU can be claimed towards PMP(PMI) after attending this event?

A great question. PMI has a guideline to use for these events. I believe this would be a Category B and the actual time is 1.5 hours (7:00-8:30).

The presentation on Value innovation and the group activity were excellent. Pat Reed's informative delivery style has the effect of making complex concepts for Value Innovation and gaining a Competitive Edge easy to understand and put to use - as demonstrated by the class activity. True "value" when employed properly. Thank you for the opportunity to attend. Great job of hosting and coordinating by the SVALN.

This is a great opportunity to hear Pat - she lives Agile values, and is one of the clearest, most global thinkers on the emerging value of Agile in the workplace today.
