Crystal Chang, a Lecturer in Global Studies and Political Science at UC Berkeley, will present an overview of the state of the Chinese electric vehicle market. The Chinese government has long exerted influence on automakers, and now, in the wake of US withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accords, sees a chance to wrest world leadership in the electric vehicle sector. Who are the major players in China's EV market now, and how prepared is China's infrastructure for an increase in EV utilization? How likely are internationally competitive EVs to emerge from China manufacturers?

Prof. Chang's professional and research interests lie at the intersection of comparative political economy and international business strategy. Her current research investigates the role of the state in the development of China's auto industry.
