What we're about
This is a song circle meeting at my home (in the Triangle Area in NC between Chapel Hill and Durham). Come over on Tuesdays at 7 and sing with nice, funny, appreciative, supportive people. No experience necessary. Jane bangs cheerfully on the piano and fills everyone with courage. Guitars etc. are welcome. Sing harmony if you want to try that, or bellow away on the tune. Vocal coaching and harmonizing tips available if you want them.
For many years I taught "Songs for Non-Singers" and "Ensemble Singing" (including harmonizing) at the Duke Short Course program. I also taught private singing lessons at my home. I teach singing and harmonizing at the annual PickNBow Folk Music retreat (the banner picture is from this year's camp).
MeetUp is now charging 50% more to groups with more than 50 members so I'm trying to keep the list down to people who actually come! So people who sign up and then don't come to a meeting within a month or two will be unsubscribed (you can sign up again later if you decide you do have the time to attend).
We go around the circle choosing songs to sing. We use the book "Rise Up Singing" (I have copies to lend if you don't have one) and you can bring songs, too, ones you know already or that you want to learn. I guarantee laughs and loads of fun. Don't be shy, give it a try!
The cost is $5 per session. I won't hold the class if less than seven people sign up. It will meet at my home from 7:30 to 9. We'll have the first session when there are seven people signed up.
Rise Up Singing has tons of songs in it that lots of people know, and it's a good starting place. I have seven copies but you might want to get your own. You can find them used or at the usual outlets. There is even a large-print edition.
