What we’re about

Welcome to Single Hikers and Socializers!

We're about hiking/snowshoeing in the Denver/Boulder metro area (and sometimes beyond), and about meeting other folks who enjoy the same and who happen to be single. We're not a "dating" group, but hey, what better way to meet friends (and maybe more) who at least have 1 thing in common with you than to go out and do something you enjoy in the great outdoors?! The "Socializers" part of our name means we'll almost always plan to grab a post-hike lunch (and beverage) at a nearby restaurant.

We have a variety of hike lengths, elevation gains, difficulties, speeds, and locations. One of our goals is to make sure each event description makes it clear how long and hard the hike will be, so you will know if it's the right hike for you. It's no fun for anyone in the group if people come on hikes that are too fast or too slow for them, so we aim for clear hike descriptions. (Of course, the descriptions only help if you read them! :) ) If the hike difficulty is not clear to you, please ask the event organizer before signing up.

Disclaimer and Release: Our Disclaimer and Release thoroughly states that members attend events SOLELY and COMPLETELY at their own risk, and that they release and hold harmless Meetup, the Single Hikers and Socializers group, its organizers, officers, directors, agents, leaders, and any person you choose to carpool with, from any and all claims that may result in injuries or damages. By joining this group, and/or participating in any group event, you are agreeing to it. Please read it at https://www.meetup.com/Single-Hikers-And-Socializers/pages/30404295/Disclaimer_and_Release_of_Liability/

No Shows and Last Minute Cancellations: Our event organizers put a lot of effort into planning events, and many of our events fill up. When you sign up for an event and then don't come, or cancel at the last minute, our organizers get discouraged because it feels like they've wasted their time, and our members who couldn't get on the already-full event get frustrated because there really would have been space on the event had you not signed up or cancelled a reasonable time in advance. Hey, "real" emergencies arise for all of us, but please don't sign up for an event unless you're sure you can come, and then cancel at least a day in advance if you learn otherwise.

History: Our group was originally formed in June, 2010, by local hiking legend Bob Baumgartner, who led thousands of hikes and introduced thousands of folks to hiking before sadly passing away in 2015 while hiking up on Mt. Sopris. RIP Bob!

Colorado Outdoor Recreation Search and Rescue (CORSAR) Card: We encourage everyone to purchase a CORSAR card. Colorado residents and visitors are well served by dedicated volunteer search and rescue teams. By purchasing a Colorado Outdoor Recreation Search and Rescue (CORSAR) card you are contributing to the Search and Rescue Fund, that reimburses teams for costs incurred in search and rescues activities across the State of Colorado. The CORSAR card is available for $3 for a one-year card and $12 for five-year card. The CORSAR card is not insurance and does not reimburse individuals nor does it pay for medical transport. You can get more info. and may purchase cards online at https://cdola.colorado.gov/funding-programs/search-and-rescue-fund.

We hope to see you on our hikes!
