It’s a sure bet people who traveled along Route 66 enjoyed their journeys and many of those travelers stayed at the Best Western Route 66 Rail Haven, a hotel celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.

Along with the hotel on Aug. 10 following the Birthplace of Route 66 Festival in downtown Springfield, the hotel also is offering special rates this year and dedicating a room to one of Elvis Presley’s musicians.

That musician in John Wilkinson, a Springfield native who played rhythm guitar at more than 1,000 of Presley’s concerts. Wilkinson died in January at age 67.
