Topics covered in this full-day immersive workshop include:

• Writing memorable characters.

• Building a page-turning plot.

• Creating cinematic, multi-purpose settings.

• Editing effectively.

• Finding an agent or self-publishing.

The workshop will be a mixture of lecture, in-class activities, and writing, with time for questions. Bring ideas, five pages of work in progress, plus something to write with and on.

Jessica Lourey Bio

Jessica Lourey (rhymes with "dowry") is a Lefty- and Anthony-nominated author best known for her critically-acclaimed Murder-by-Month mysteries, which have earned multiple starred reviews from Library Journal and Booklist, the latter calling her writing "a splendid mix of humor and suspense."

Jessica also writes sword and sorcery fantasy, edge-of-your-seat YA adventure, and magical realism, literary fiction, and feminist thrillers.

She is a tenured professor of creative writing and sociology, a recipient of The Loft's Excellence in Teaching fellowship, a regular Psychology Today blogger, and a TEDx presenter.

When not teaching, reading, or dorking out with her family, you can find her dreaming of her next story.
