What we're about

We share the chair together, whatever gear you wear: ski, ride, carve, free heel … we love it all! We’re not about the gear we wear. We’re about camaraderie, friendship and the sharing of what we know. SCWDC encourages and nurtures all Snowriders, whether you’re new to the snow or a seasoned expert. We’re about the adrenaline and endorphin inducing activities on snow. We're about sharing the chair and seeking fun in and out of the lift line all year round! Come share the chair with us!

Off season, when we can't slide for the want of snow, we'll meet up at least once a month to reconnect/nurture friendships old and new doing fun and interesting things. Meet ups will include select SCWDC (http://scwdc.org/) events as well as impromptu, exploratory, or experimental events thought up or suggested by Meetup members: fun, adventure, camaraderie and friendship on and off the slopes, with fun people of like minds and shared experiences.

Winter Park Resort is a Colorado favorite located about 67 miles northwest of Denver. Originally built by the city of Denver as a winter park for its residents, Winter Park Resort has continually operated since 1939.

The ski area is known for its early and late snow with terrain for all ability types. Winter Park spans across two distinct mountains and is home to a great mix of beginner, intermediate and advanced trails. Mary Jane Mountain is home to amazing tree skiing, world-class moguls, and wide open alpine bowls.

The resort contains modern amenities with an extensive well developed trail system. The village base contains multiple lodging, dining and shopping options.

Ski and Snowboard Terrain

The resort consists of three interconnected mountain peaks (and seven "territories") — Winter Park, Mary Jane, and Vasquez Ridge — which share a common lift ticket. Mary Jane, opened in 1975, has a separate base area and is known for its moguls, tree skiing, hidden huts and generally more difficult terrain. Skiing magazine ranks Mary Jane the top mogul skiing area in North America, including the above-tree line terrain of Parsenn Bowl. Vasquez Ridge, opened in 1986, offers intermediate terrain and mogul runs. With a summit elevation of 12,060' and a base elevation of 9,000', Winter Park offers 3,060' of vertical, 3,081 acres of skiable terrain, and 162 trails. The terrain mix is 24% Green (39), 39% Blue (63), and 37% Black/Double Black (60). Annual snowfall is over 327".D

Located only 1/3 mile from Winter Park Resort, the Vintage Hotel is your choice for comfort, convenience and relaxation. 118 finely-appointed guest rooms offer spectacular views of the majestic Rocky Mountains, and lush, pine-covered mountain sides. You'll be staying in studios featuring kitchenettes, eat out or in, you choose. Walk out the door and take the Cabriolet to the base.

Resort:
Traveling to Alaska is an adventure, some call it the last frontier. Alyeska, located just 40 miles from Anchorage and near the old mining town of Girdwood, has a massive annual snowfall of 650 inches with 2,500 vertical feet of diverse terrain, and short lift lines, Alyeska Resort lives up to – and helps define – Alaska’s spectacular “steep and deep” reputation. Other winter activities include glacier dog sledding, glacier and wildlife cruises, jet ski tours, snowmobiling and viewing the Northern Lights.

This trip includes two nights in Anchorage and the opportunity to view the ceremonial start of the Iditarod. The Iditarod sled race is an iconic Alaska winter event. It also coincides with the Fur Rendezvous, one of the largest winter festivals in the world, the Charlotte Jensen Native Arts Market, snow sculpture competition and Miners and Trappers Ball are all on Saturday too.

Mountain:
Alyeska is truly designed for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. The area receives on average 669 inches of snow at the summit annually and offers 1,610 acres of accessible terrain. It has 76 named trails serviced by 7 lifts, including two magic carpets. From its headwall to base, it boasts a 3,200 feet vertical rise with 2,500 feet of lift-serviced vertical rise. The base is 250 feet, and the summit is 3,939 feet. Trail difficulty ratings are 11% beginner, 52% intermediate, and 37% advanced to expert. Freestylers will enjoy the two terrain parks with its rail jib, box, larger tables and more. Cross-country skiers and snow-shoers can take advantage of the 130 kilometers of Nordic trails.

Experts skiers should head to the North Face. It features North America’s longest continuous double black run. The North Face of Alyeska Resort is worthy of a Warren Miller film. For bragging rights ski Christmas Chute North America’s longest continuous double black diamond run. The classic drop is 50 degrees of twists and turns. For intermediates and advanced skiers, there are many long top-to-bottom runs and wide-open bowls. Beginners can have fun in the tree-lined groomed runs. For those wanting to test their skills, you can ride into the backcountry via a helipad with local guides.

Resort:
Aspen is considered by many as having the world’s best skiing, and is ranked as the no. 5 resort for 2021 by the readers of Ski Magazine. It sits high on the list for terrain, challenge, service, weather, on-mountain food, dining, apres-ski, and off-mountain activities. Aspen is a unique blend of history, culture, festivals, sports, restaurants, and music which makes this famous Colorado, Rocky Mountain town a very special world-class resort. And if you also enjoy people watching, celebrities flock to Aspen. Your five-day lift ticket also includes access to Snowmass, Aspen Highlands, and Buttermilk.

Mountain:
Have you ever wanted to ski up to four ski resorts in one week without packing a bag? Now is your chance as Ski Magazine's Readers' poll ranks Aspen Snowmass (Aspen, Snowmass, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk) number five for 2021!

Aspen (Ajax) Mountain packs a big punch in its 675 acres. It has 76 trails packed into a narrow area that has a vertical drop of 3,267 ft (996m). Aspen Mountain has no beginner runs at all, and is well known for the many blue cruisers for strong intermediates, and the black diamond steeps and bumps. The terrain split is 48% intermediate, 26% advanced, and 26% expert. Beginners head to Buttermilk.

Snowmass has come into its own. It is not only a cruiser’s paradise, but in the Hanging Valley area where inbound back country skiing is permitted, there are enough “cornices, glades, cliffs, bumps, and jumps to make an X-Games producer swallow his cell phone.” Skiers won’t be bored with over 3,300 acres and a 12,510 foot summit that offers a major vertical rise.

Aspen Highlands' major asset is the Western Slope weather that produces beautiful powder during the night and gorgeous blue-sky days to ski it. The resort is noted for its "superbly efficient lift system". Yet, this mountain is uncrowded with fewer skiers than nearby Buttermilk. Buttermilk, well known for its family programs and learning center, is a haven for intermediate skiers and boarders looking for groomers!
