### Course Description
In this five-week practical and tutored course you will sculpt a small torso (approximately half life-size) from a live model.
During these 3 hour sessions, you will learn how to build and develop a clay sculpture directly from observation, focusing on the structure, form and anatomy of the torso. The course also covers preparation for firing, so that you leave with a finished sculpted torso ready for the kiln.
It will be a small group 6-10
You will work from a pre-made armature on a prepared board. With lectures and demos you will understand the process of looking at the form and how to approach sculpting it. In doing this, we will look at the best way to handle the clay and examine the anatomy and base forms of the torso in detail.
If you already have experience preparing work for firing, you may spend the last session of the five weeks sculpting from the model.
If not, the final session will focus on hollowing and preparing your piece for firing, with demonstrations and step-by-step guidance from the tutor.
After completion the torsos will be fired. The drying and firing process takes approximately 4 weeks after which you will be notified of collection times/dates from either Yardley Arts or direct from Saramica Clay ( 5 minutes drive from Yardley arts)
Dates are 16, 23, 30 April and 7 and 14 May
