What we're about

Interested in Making at any level? It's called So Cal Makers and is intended to reach out to anyone who might be interested in making. Want to make something? Add a topic. We'll help you find a place and coordinate it.

The age group is all ages, but some activities are developed for youth.

The meet up is intended to be a collaborative promotional site for those who wish to share their events.

We are currently scheduling activities at the following locations:

It's not always easy to find us.

Here's how to find us at the location at Grace UMC, 3rd and Junipero in Long Beach, CA.

Make hypertufa planters
Needs a date and time

Needs a location

I don't know how to do it, will learn together. they are awesome, concrete based planters with built in nutrients. (peat moss and pearlite). I believe they will encourage moss to grow on the outside.

We'll have a cost, I'll have to figure out how much. I'm envisioning that we will make several and will get back together for the celebration.

Great Ball Contraption in LEGO Bricks
Needs a date and time

Needs a location

We're planning an all Day Great Ball Contraption build in LEGO Bricks. It's sort of a fundraiser... The kids participating will make a contraption for the GBC and entry dues will be used to buy materials for future events and activities. You see, we want to make... a very large... Great Ball Contraption.

The date is unspecified, I am checking for interest first..

Educators using LEGO(r) Products Meetup?
Needs a date and time

Needs a location

Hi Everyone,

I use LEGO(r) products substantially in my arena. Looking for educators who might be interested in also using LEGO(r) bricks at any level.

Wondering if you would be interested in a periodic collaboration... maybe quarterly?

Open date for now.

Design Electronic Hardware (Embedded Applications)
Needs a date and time

Needs a location

We are building a program for high school and college students (ages 14-20) who might be interested in Electronic Hardware design, and the software to support it. This program will hopefully be participated in by those geek kids who naturally are driven to learn about programming, electronics. It is a project based program, and the community will drive the goals.

Our community so far includes the Long Beach BSA, a retired Engineering professor and other technical folks. We have supported a few projects to date, and brought a lot of learning to a few dedicated youth.
