SPEAKERS AT OUR APRIL MEETING:
Judy Broberg's topic: is “Writing to Your Ancestral Villages”
Writing directly to your ancestral villages might yield information about your ancestors and their families that aren’t found in the Archives, in vital records, or in census records. You may also find living relatives that were unknown to you.
Hana Haas' topic is: Short review of Czech Grammar – “Nouns and Why are They Constantly Changing?” One of the challenges in reading matriky records is the language. The researcher needs to understand how the form of the proper nouns changes with the use of the noun in the records. A short lesson in deciphering them will help to successfully gather information on your ancestors.
Annette Gathright's topic is: “Cadastral Maps from the 19th Century”
Cadastral maps can provide information on your family not found in matriky. The maps contain information on the type of house they lived in, other buildings they had, the land they worked, and who they lived near (key to finding other related people). These records are online and searchable.
SILENT AUCTION INFORMATION:
We will be having a SILENT auction of items donated by our members that are Czech or Slovak related. Also please bring a bag to take home your treasures! Members are encouraged to come early to socialize and to set out your donated items.
