New Years Day - Scenic Laguna Paddle

We'll launch from the beach at El Morro Beach at Crystal Cove State Park (aka Abalone Point). Go south to either Treasure Island or Three Arch Bay (depending on the group). Bring a lunch.

This is a beach launch and landing. Though generally mild conditions, be prepared for getting munched. It's happened.

Parking: $15 (It's a State Park) -  Be sure to go to El Morro campground and NOT Los Trancos. Drive past the campers an go down the hill to the day use parking by the beach and PCH.  There is a short (but manageable) lug of your boat under the highway to the beach.

Paddle parking map HERE

Your free parking alternative is to go south 2 miles to Crescent Bay Beach. (Free but scarce parking) and rendezvous with us as we paddle past.

Time: Meet 8:30 am Launch 9am

OPTIONAL PRE-PADDLE  COFFEE AND RENDEZVOUS

Meet at Starbucks / Crystal Cove shopping center up the highway about 1 mile.

PCH at Reef Point Drive 7:30 am

Best way to start off the New Year!

Started the day with 34 F temperature at home to 51 F at the beach. Dense fog on the way to New Port. Which give me second thought about this paddle. As we got ready to get on the water weather all cleared water was warm and it turn out to be beautiful day. Started with high tides, on the way back low tides. This made it interesting both ways.
I got dumped by a set of waves to start the new year it was vicious (just the way I like it). It was nice meeting Bob and paddling with Lenora and Blake. Thank you all for a beautiful paddle.

Lenora, with the crazy weather every where no one will arrive early, I think we are the only place with weather like this.

If some one need a kayak to use for this trip and can beach launch, paddle the distence, I can bring an extra kayak with me.
