Memorial Day sail aboard a Catalina 38 - May 27

Details

It's Memorial Day - let's sail! I'm looking for a crew of 4-6 sailors to come hoist sails and trim jibs out of Marina del Rey. We'll sail for about 2-3 hours (I'm flexible in this regard; the sooner everyone gets here the sooner we can shove off ). I'll bring a bottle of wine (feel free to bring any favorites) and please bring some finger foods to share (Some suggestions: cheese, crackers, fruit, veggies, hummus, chips/salsa, sandwiches, wings or a dessert are some good pairings).

Experience/Skill level: All levels of sailing experience welcome, so long as you show up by dock time and are ready to learn and do crew work. Everyone will be expected to do some lite crew work... it'll be a fun albeit lite workout.

Sailing Requirements: You need to be able to get on/off the boat in the event of an emergency. This includes having the agility to step up/down about 24-inches between the boat and dock. Must have the agility to move around the cockpit and the foredeck. Must be able to stand and pull on jib/main sheets under pressure.

What to bring to the boat (besides food): No shoes... no cruise. Please wear flat, closed-toe shoes that are white-soled and won't leave a scuff. Remember to bring gloves, a jacket, water bottle and sunblock.

Terms/Expenses: It costs $800/month to keep the boat slipped and maintained, plus the wepay charges for this special trip. I would appreciate it if you'd chip in $35/each to help offset expenses related to this sail - paying in advance with a 48-hour cancellation policy helps mitigate any unreliable RSVPs. Contribution is not a condition of carriage on the vessel - private message me if you have trouble RSVP'ing online.

Getting to the boat: Plan ahead, you need to be here 1/2 hour before departure and traffic is pretty gnarly in this end of town, so leave 15-minutes earlier than you think you should. My slip is on the south side of the street but the best place to park is on the north side of the street across from the Chart House. Parking on either side of the Capri apartments is free but it's quite a walk to the gate; there are signs that say permit only but I've never seen it enforced. If you'd rather be safe than sorry, there's paid parking near the Cheesecake Factory - give yourself at least 5-hours of paid parking. It'll be a short walk along the south side of the docks until you arrive at gate C600.

Guests: you may invite your friends to RSVP through the meetup site - all crew must sign up through the meetup or or sign a release of liability.

Release of liability: By reserving your attendance for this event, you (Releasor) hereby forever waive, release and discharge the host (Releasee) from any and all claims, demands, damages, judgments, executions, rights of action or causes of action, present or future, whether the same be known, anticipated or unanticipated, which a Releasor may have, or claim to have, against any Released Party resulting from death, personal injury, property damage or other loss Releasor may sustain as a result of participating in the event or other activities related thereto. Releasors hereby acknowledge that serious accidents occasionally occur during sailing activities and that mortal or serious personal injuries and/or property damage or other loss may result from participation in the event. Releasors knowingly assume all risks of participation in the event, including all risk of personal injury and loss of or damage to the Releasors or their property, including further injury sustained as the result of the efforts of third parties who come to the aid of Releasor(s) if injured as a result of participation in the event, and release all other persons and entities mentioned above who might otherwise be liable to Releasors. Releasors agree to abide by all rules of the Host in connection with participation in the event and understand that the failure to observe and obey such rules may result in instant revocation of Releasor’s(s’) right to participate in the event.
