This group is for people in recovery from addictions seeking a social outlet with other people in recovery and for people with mental health diagnosis' and any family and friends of each. It is meant simply as a social outlet for positive interaction and activity free of alcohol and other substances. Many people in recovery have not socialized with others unless they were drinking or doing drugs. We aim to help people learn to socialize in a positive and drug-free manner within the community. For those seeking an alternative to the bars and clubs scene, this group should be a great outlet. The group is facilitated by Damian DePauw, Program Manager for Onward Recovery, a program of Independent Living, Inc. Damian is a mental health (NY Certified Peer Specialist) and substance use disorder advocate (Certified Recovery Peer Advocate) with both personal lived experience and a formal education as a peer-counselor and advocate. This group is meant for pro-social interaction with other members of the community who live in recovery from mental health and substance use disorders. It is a public gathering and not meant as an anonymous meeting or a formal program.
