10:00 – Memorial Day Tribute ride doing Backbay to Castaways Park for the Field of Honor. 2 bike rides in one. Riders can return after Castaways Park and the Field of Honor or continue with the leader to Newport and Hoag ridge and Ocean Trails.

Leaving from 829 Harbor Island Drive Newport Beach, CA 92660. Have fun, be safe and exercise in the beauty of where we live. On this ride after Castaways Park you will see Pirates, Cowboys & Indians, you will ride all the way across the USA, and go places you’ve never been. Really! Beach cruise, spin hard or both. Have fun, meet like-minded people, be safe and enjoy the splendor of where we live. No one gets left behind.

Available (see end of post) please rent a bike with gears as you will have more fun.

THE RIDE

NOT a ‘pack ride’ on PCH but keeping to trails and side streets. Beach cruise, spin hard or both. Great for first timers. Plan for 2+ hours and 17 miles. Leave from the Galley Café on Bayside Drive to Backbay trail – Castaways Park – Newport and Hoag Ridge and then ocean trails and return on the Balboa Ferry ($1.25 ticket). We return across the on the ferry and back to the start at the Galley Cafe. We plan the ride you bring the enthusiasm. One hill that beach cruisers will walk but primarily flat. You will get exercise and it’s a nice day for a walk too! Bring money for lunch and the ferry.

An unpretentious diner siting at the edge of the bay and has been a hidden gem to many over the years except for locals. Has an open parking lot and street parking also. Very low key and secure with no traffic on a dead end street.

Text me directly if it looks like rain. Overcast days are great for riding. We don’t ride in the rain.

DIRECTIONS

Use your GPS for the Galley Café and make sure you are going towards the ocean if coming from the Jamboree exit on the 405.

ð Helmets highly recommended.

ð Plan ahead.

ð Check your tires for air pressure.

Please! – No creepy, negative types, anger issues or controlling behavior invited. This is always a supportive group of like-minded people and it is important that people feel safe. Some adventurous people are trying Meet Up and a bike ride for the first time and we plan with this in mind. Thank you

BIKE RENTALS PARKING

Park in the Bayside Center Shopping Plaza at the intersection of Jamboree and Bayside Drive. The bridge to Balboa Island is directly across from the shopping center. Walk across the bridge onto Balboa Island on the right hand sidewalk. First building on the right after the bridge is SportsRent, Liam's bike rental place. Call Liam at the bike rental shop to arrange for early morning pick up.

Come early to rent a bike and peddle up Bayside Drive to the Galley Café to be ready for 10:000 start. Text me with questions please.
